July

This month we will have lots of fun, we are going to be architects and engineers! We will build a building with several floors. But first we are going to learn how a building works and what are all the different areas it has.

First, we will see what structure can support it. After we are going to see how the water and electricity get to the building; with cables we will build a network and with pipes and water we will see how the water will get to the different areas. Then, we will examine what materials we need to use to do the walls: Cement, bricks, drywall or wood and we will make our own.

In this fun project we will discover many things such as: what happens when we get into the shower? Where does the water comes from? Why are buildings and houses stable?

Rhyme of the Month

A Serious Question

by Carolyn Wells

A kitten went a-walking

One morning in July,

And idly fell a-talking

With a great big butterfly.

The kitten’s tone was airy,

The butterfly would scoff;

When there came along a fairy

Who whisked his wings right off.

And then–for it is written

Fairies can do such things–

Upon the startled kitten

She stuck the yellow wings.

The kitten felt a quiver,

She rose into the air,

Then flew down to the river

To view her image there.

With fear her heart was smitten,

And she began to cry,

“Am I a butter-kitten?

Or just a kitten-fly?”
